If you unsubscribe from a paid channel before your subscription period ends, you will not be refunded for the current period. What you get instead is the access you already paid for: you keep the channel for the remainder of that period.
For example, if you paid for a monthly subscription on October 1st and unsubscribe on October 15th, you will still have access until October 31st.
Changed your mind before the date
If you decide to resubscribe during this period, your subscription resumes under the same plan you previously paid for. While your access is still running, the channel and your subscriptions list show Renew instead of the cancel option. After the paid period ends, the subscription renews automatically and payment is taken unless you cancel before the renewal date.

A few related cases
Free trial. Cancelling during a trial charges you nothing, and you keep access until the trial ends.
One-time channels. There's nothing to cancel — access ends on the date shown, and nothing renews.
Money held for a renewal. Funds can be reserved shortly before a renewal. Cancel before that renewal goes through and the reserved amount returns to your balance.
The creator paused or closed the channel. That isn't grounds for a refund as long as you had access during the period you paid for.
